OUR FIRST GIRLS IS ON FIRE CAMP. BEFORE I BEGIN, I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOMENT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE INCREDIBLE TEAM WHO HELPED TO BRING THIS CAMP TO LIFE. JOINING ME THIS EVENING ARE MEMBERS OF PALM BEACH GARDENS FIRE RESCUE STAFF, WHO PLAYED A KEY ROLE IN PLANNING, LEADING AND SUPPORTING THE GIRLS ON FIRE CAMP.

FIRE MEDIC CHRISTINA KRAKOWSKI, AND FIRE MEDIC JULIE JELLY.GIRLS ON FIRE. SORRY. GIRLS ON FIRE IS A LEADERSHIP CAMP DESIGNED FOR GIRLS AGES 13 TO 17. THROUGH HANDS ON EXPERIENCES IN FIREFIGHTING, TEAMWORK AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT.
CONFIDENCE, RESILIENCE. LEADERSHIP AND COURAGE.
OVER THE COURSE OF A WEEK, CAMPERS SUITED UP IN FULL GEAR, PULLED HOSE LINES, CLIMBED LADDERS, AND CHALLENGED THEMSELVES PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY.
THEY SAW FIRSTHAND THAT THEY WERE CAPABLE OF FAR MORE THAN THEY EVER IMAGINED.
IN THE PROCESS, THEY LEARNED. THEY DIDN'T JUST LEARN TACTICAL SKILLS.
IT'S ABOUT STEPPING UP, STAYING GROUNDED, AND SHOWING UP FOR OTHERS.
THOSE ARE LESSONS THEY'LL CARRY WITH THEM IN CLASSROOMS, CAREERS, AND EVERY CHALLENGE AHEAD.
WHAT MADE THIS EXPERIENCE EVEN MORE POWERFUL WAS SEEING WOMEN LEADERS, FIREFIGHTERS, MENTORS, INSTRUCTORS COME TOGETHER TO POUR THEIR ENERGY AND EXPERIENCE IN THE NEXT GENERATION.
AND TOGETHER, THE GIRLS FORMED A BOND. THEY CAME IN.
WE WATCH GIRLS WHO ARE QUIET AND UNSURE ON DAY ONE STEP INTO LEADERSHIP ROLES BY DAY THREE, GIVING DIRECTIONS, CHEERING ONE ANOTHER AND TAKING INITIATIVE.
WE SAW THEM GO FROM HESITANT TO DECISIVE, FROM WATCHING TO LEADING.
SEVERAL HAVE ALREADY ASKED HOW THEY CAN RETURN NEXT YEAR, NOT JUST AS CAMPERS, BUT AS SQUAD LEADERS READY TO GUIDE AND INSPIRE THE NEXT GROUP COMING THROUGH. MANY HAVE ALSO EXPRESSED INTEREST IN OUR EXPLORER PROGRAM, CONTINUING THEIR TRAINING AND TAKING THEIR FIRST STEPS TOWARDS A FUTURE IN FIRE RESCUE.
THAT'S THE GOAL TO PLANT THE SEED OF POSSIBILITY AND THEN GIVE THEM SPACE TO GROW.
WE HAVE A FEW OF OUR CAMPERS HERE WITH US THIS EVENING.
NOT EVERYONE WAS ABLE TO ATTEND DUE TO SEVERAL TRAVEL, TRAVEL AND PRIOR COMMITMENTS.
BUT SOME OF THE CAMPERS WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THEIR EXPERIENCE.
GOOD EVENING, COUNCIL MEMBERS. WHEN I FIRST HEARD OF, YOU KNOW, A CAMP CALLED GIRLS ON FIRE, IT WAS FIRST FROM A SHOW JUST CALLED CHICAGO FIRE, AND I.
AND THEN MY MOM TOLD ME THAT SHE HEARD ABOUT THIS CAMP THAT WAS HAPPENING, TOLD ME ABOUT IT, AND I THOUGHT, THAT'S A REALLY GREAT IDEA, AND I DEFINITELY WANT TO PARTICIPATE IN THAT.
I WASN'T ENTIRELY SURE WHAT IT WAS GOING TO BE WHEN I WENT INTO IT.
WHAT? YOU KNOW, THE VIBE, WHAT IT WAS GOING TO BE TAUGHT, THOSE KINDS OF THINGS.
BUT I HAD SOME REALLY GREAT FIRST IMPRESSIONS.
YOU KNOW, KIDS, WHEN GOING INTO A NEW ENVIRONMENT, YOU KNOW, IT MAKES SENSE FOR THEM TO BE, LIKE, HESITANT OR SHY. AND, YOU KNOW, THEY WERE ALL, LIKE, LOUD AND UPLIFTING AND CHEERING EACH OTHER ON.

AND, YOU KNOW, THEY WERE VERY WELCOMING. I GOT THE SAME VIBE FROM THE INSTRUCTORS AS WELL.THEY WERE YOU KNOW, THEY WERE HELPFUL, ANSWERED ANY QUESTIONS THAT WE ASKED AND, YOU KNOW, WERE PLAYFUL WITH EACH OTHER AND WITH US. AND IT MADE IT VERY WELCOMING.
IT FELT VERY GOOD. THE CAMP ITSELF HAS A WIDE VARIETY OF THINGS THAT IT TEACHES.
SO, YOU KNOW, IT'S NOT JUST PULLING A HOSE OR GOING UP A LADDER, WHICH WERE, YOU KNOW, VERY HELPFUL.
WE EVEN HAD A DAY WHERE WE GOT TO GO TO THE RECREATIONAL CENTER POOL AND LEARNED SOME WATER SAVES, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS ALSO VERY INTERESTING. THERE WERE ALSO SOME THINGS THAT I WAS I MYSELF WERE SURPRISED TO BE.
VERY IMPORTANT DETAILS TO BE A FIREFIGHTER. THINGS LIKE HOW TO LIKE DIFFERENT TYPES OF KNOTS TO LEARN KNOTS AND LIKE ROPES AND HOW TO USE CERTAIN TOOLS. BASICALLY A LOT OF THINGS THAT ARE HELPFUL TO KNOW TO ADAPT TO A LOT OF DIFFERENT SITUATIONS.
AND THERE WERE A LOT OF ACTIVITIES THAT HELPED US LEARN ADAPTABILITY.
SO THERE WERE A WIDE RANGE OF THINGS THAT WE LEARNED IN THE CAMP.
AND I TOOK AWAY A LOT FROM THE CAMP AS WELL. IT TEACHES A LOT OF THINGS BEYOND JUST LIKE HOW TO BE OUT IN THE FIELD WITH THOSE KINDS OF SKILLS, LIKE SEARCHING AN APARTMENT.
IT TEACHES LIFE SKILLS THAT ANY GIRL WOULD BE BETTER OFF LEARNING, LIKE RESPONSIBILITY, PERSEVERANCE, AND COOPERATION WITH EACH OTHER. IT TAKES A LOT AS A PERSON TO BE ABLE TO STEP UP AND BE THE KIND OF PERSON THAT PUTS THEIR LIFE AND THEIR COMFORTABILITY ON THE LINE FOR OTHER PEOPLE AT THIS CAMP.
AND THE JOB IN REAL LIFE PUTS YOU IN A LOT OF UNCOMFORTABLE POSITIONS AND HAVING A LOT OF THESE.
TRAITS AND QUALITIES ARE VERY HELPFUL. YOU KNOW.
I MEAN, NOT JUST IN THE FIELD, BUT ALSO IN LIFE IN GENERAL.
ANY GIRL WOULD BE BETTER OFF LEARNING THESE TYPES OF SKILLS.
I LEARNED A LOT ABOUT, YOU KNOW, THE THE CAMP.
AND, YOU KNOW, I IMPROVED A LOT AS A PERSON. AND THE INSTRUCTORS HAD SAID A LOT THAT, YOU KNOW, IT'S THE CAMP. AND THE JOB IS IT REQUIRES A LOT OF HARD WORK.
BUT IT'S VERY REWARDING. THEY SAID THAT THEY, YOU KNOW, THEY LOVE THEIR JOB.
I LOVED THE CAMP. AND I THINK THAT IT'S VERY REWARDING.

THE PURPOSE THERE WAS TO SEE HOW OUR COMMUNICATIONS FROM THE EOC GETS TO THE FIELD AND HOW THE FIELD COMMUNICATES BACK HOW EFFECTIVE IT CAN BE. THIS IS ALL SUPPORT. THAT'S WHY WE SUPPORT WHOEVER'S IN THE FIELD WITH WHATEVER IT IS THEY NEED.

AND SO WE'RE TALKING TO OUR RESIDENTS TO ASSURE THEM THAT FLASH FLOODING ISN'T AN ISSUE LIKE THEY'RE SEEING ON NATIONAL TV. I'D LIKE TO EXPLAIN TO THEM ALSO THAT WE CAN HAVE WATER IN THE STREET.

AND ONE OF THE STORIES THAT WAS TOLD TO ME, I DON'T KNOW IF YOU ALL KNOW THIS, BUT THERE WAS A FIRE AND THEN A CODE ENFORCEMENT ISSUE AND CODE ENFORCEMENT JUST ON NOT ISSUING CODES VIOLATIONS, BUT THEY HELPED THAT RESIDENTS WORK THROUGH THOSE FIND A RESIDENCE AS HE'S ELDERLY AND ACTUALLY ONE OF THE STAFF MEMBERS IS STILL DOING THAT PERSON'S LAUNDRY. SO WHEN I HEARD THAT, I LITERALLY SAT BACK IN MY CHAIR AND WAS LIKE, THE FACT THAT THEY TAKE THEIR JOBS TO HEART, BUT ALSO THE RESIDENTS AND WORK THROUGH IT.
STATION SIX OPENED. SO THAT WAS PRETTY AWESOME TO SEE.
AS A FIREFIGHTER, IT IS ONE OF THE MOST HIGH TECH THINGS I THINK I'VE EVER SEEN.
AND IT KIND OF IMPRESSED ME OF THE FORESIGHT, THE BUILDING.
AND I LOVE THE STATION AND IT WAS GREAT. WE HAD A REALLY GOOD SHOWING, SO I REALLY LIKE THAT.

I DO WANT TO REITERATE THAT I MENTIONED LAST MONTH THAT WE, THE CITY OF PALM BEACH GARDENS STAFF AND PALM BEACH COUNTY, FDOT SEA, THE TURNPIKE AUTHORITY AND OUR STAFF HAD A MEETING AND I WANTED TO BRING YOU GUYS UP TO SPEED ON THAT THE MEETING. AND IT WAS IN REGARDS TO TRAFFIC ISSUES THAT WE'VE SEEN AND FELT AND HEARD FROM OUR RESIDENTS OVER THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS, AND THE MEETING WENT VERY WELL. IT WAS PRODUCTIVE.
BUT I DO WANT TO SHARE A FEW OF THE POINTS. AND ONE, IN REGARDS TO PGA BOULEVARD EAST, WE'VE ALL HEARD A LOT OF COMMENTS ABOUT THE FACT THAT IT BACKS UP TREMENDOUSLY DUE TO THE I-95 SOUTHBOUND BOUND RAMP, BECAUSE OF THE MERGE WHERE IT GOES FROM, OR BOTTLENECKS FROM TWO LANE TWO LANES TO ONE LANE GOING SOUTHBOUND ON 95.
ON THE ON THE BRIDGE. AND THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON TRAFFIC COMPLAINTS FROM OUR RESIDENTS, BESIDES, OF COURSE, WESTERN NORTHLAKE DOT DISCUSSED A POSSIBLE IMR CIS FUNDING PROJECT TO IMPROVE AND EXPAND THAT BRIDGE, AND THAT IS AN EXPEDITED PROCESS THAT ELIMINATES THE PDA PROCESS, WHICH ACTUALLY SAVES A LOT OF TIME.
THEY AGREED TO DO SOME MODELING AND SAID IT WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL IF THIS WAS ADDED TO THE MPOS PRIORITY LIST, SO THAT MAYBE THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN DO GOING FORWARD.
IT IS A LONG TERM FIX, BUT IF WE START NOW, THAT WOULD REALLY HELP OUR RESIDENTS OUT.
AND THE COUNTY ENGINEER PROMISED TO HELP IN ANY WAY POSSIBLE.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, ENGINEER AND HOOD ROAD, BY THE WAY, WHICH WAS THE PILOT PROGRAM FOR THE SMART SIGNALIZATION PROJECT. IT WAS TAKEN OFF THE PILOT PROGRAM. THEY TURNED IT OFF BECAUSE IT WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE BRIGHTLINE.
WHEN THE BRIGHTLINE TRAIN CROSS AND THE THE ARMS WENT DOWN, IT WAS TRIGGERING IT WAS CREATING SOME CHAOS, BUT THEY FIXED IT AND NOW THEY HAVE IT BACK ON WHICH THEY DIDN'T EVEN TELL OUR CITY THAT.
AND FRENCHMAN'S RESERVE ACTUALLY HAD A LOT OF COMMENTS.
AND THEY I HAVE TO GIVE THEM CREDIT. THEY THE COUNTY ENGINEER AND THE COUNTY STAFF DID RESPOND TO FRENCHMAN'S CREEK PRETTY QUICKLY AND TO A LOT OF OUR COMMENTS AS WELL. AND AS FAR AS WESTERN NORTH LAKE, THE FOUR LANE SECTION CONTRACT WAS AWARDED AND AN EXPEDITED HOU CELEBRATION,

BUT THE COMPLETION DATE IS 2027 AND HAUL ROAD COCONUT, WHICH IS THE SIX LANE SECTION, HAS A COMPLETION DATE OF 2029.THAT WAS, I GUESS I CAN BELIEVE, BECAUSE THERE'S A LOT OF POLES.
BUT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT MAYBE THEY CAN HOPEFULLY WORK ON WITH FPL BECAUSE THAT YEAR MEANS A LOT.
AND SEMINOLE PRAT EXTENSION HAS BEEN ADDED TO THE FIVE YEAR PLAN.
AND IT'S PLANNED IN 3 TO 5 YEARS. SO THAT WILL BE REALLY HELPFUL FOR OUR WESTERN RESIDENTS.
AND OF COURSE BEELINE NORTHLAKE INTERCHANGE. WE HAD A LOT OF CONVERSATION ABOUT THAT, BUT IT IS GOING TO BE COMPLETED IN 2028, WHICH IS THE MAIN THING. AND I ALSO HAD ONE MORE ITEM TO ASK.
I THINK IF THE COUNCIL IS IN AGREEMENT, MAYBE A PROCLAMATION HONORING HIS MANY YEARS OF DEDICATED GOVERNMENT SERVICE WOULD BE A MEANINGFUL WAY TO RECOGNIZE HIS COMMITMENT AND LEADERSHIP OVER THE YEARS.
